Here at HARC we are a vet clinic solely for the care of animals in foster with one of our rescue partners. Unfortunately, we do not accept animal surrenders, facilitate adoptions, or see privately owned pets. However, please refer to this page for resources to find help with rehoming animals, adoptions, stray and lost dogs and cats, or injured wildlife.

Wake County Animal Services

WCAS provides resources for adoptions, rehoming, and lost and found pets. It also provides information on lost-cost spay/neuter programs and emergency clinics. You can also find contact information for Animal Control agencies here.

SPCA of Wake County

The SPCA of Wake County facilitates adoptions, rehoming and low cost spay/neuter clinics. They also have volunteer and foster programs if you are looking to get involved with an animal organization.

Injured or Orphaned Wildlife

When encountering injured wildlife, it’s important to take the right steps to ensure their safety and well-being:

  • Contact a Wildlife Rehabilitation Center: The best course of action is to contact a local wildlife rehabilitation center. These organizations have professionals trained to handle injured or sick wildlife and can provide the necessary care.
  • Minimize Contact: While it may be tempting to help an injured animal directly, it’s important to minimize contact to avoid further stress or injury. Use a towel or blanket to gently move the animal if necessary and transport them in a secure container to a wildlife rehabilitator.
  • Observe From a Distance: For young animals, sometimes what appears to be abandonment is actually normal behavior. Before intervening, observe the situation carefully to ensure the animal is truly in need of help.
